In celebration of Earth Month in April, Wild South is teaming with Moulton Middle School to develop an environmental art exhibit that will be on display at the 2010 Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival. Students attending Moulton Middle School are invited to submit one poster using markers, crayons, pens, paint, or colored pencils with a focus on “TREES”.
“Wild South's goal is to raise awareness about Earth Month and what people can do to live cleaner and greener with less damaging impact on our planet,” said Wild South’s Educational Coordinator Janice Barrett. “In Lawrence County, we are extremely fortunate to claim the Bankhead National Forest as our backyard. The Bankhead as a recreational and environmental resource will also be a subject that these young artists can use for inspiration.” Leading up to the 2010 Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival, Wild South staff will also give a presentation on the importance of trees and how they benefit humans to participating classes.
The new environmental poster exhibit is sponsored by International Paper (IP) located in Courtland. IP is also donating the recycled paper for students to use in creating their artwork.
All posters will be on display in the Coliseum during the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival, April 10-11, 2010. The names of each student submitting a poster will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win $50. The teacher of the winning student will also win $50.
